Day Itinerary

COLOMBO / PINNAWALA/ KANDY/ COLOMBO (app. 260KMS)

Departure early morning and reach Pinnawella ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE in time to experience the elephants march to the nearby river for their daily bath. SPICES GARDEN Visit the spice garden at Mavanella. Here you can experience the way spices and herbs used for Sri Lankan cuisine and medications are grown. Spices of Sri Lanka attracted the early sea faring merchants who made the long voyages to purchase this precious merchandise. The then Ceylon was a hub during the Spice Route era. Next TEA FACTORY Visit a Tea Plantation and Tea Factory en route. Sri Lanka being famous for its “Ceylon Tea” (Ceylon the former name of Sri Lanka). A CUP OF Ceylon Tea has been enjoyed by the world for centuries and the history of tea in Sri Lanka is undoubted a fascinating tale by itself. See and experience the complex process that goes into making of this cherished product from plucking to packing.

CITY TOUR OF KANDY

Sightseeing of Kandy city including Upper Lake Drive and visits to Art and Craft Centres followed by a visit to the Gem Bureau where you can enjoy a informative documentary film on how Sri Lankan Gem mining is traditionally done and the process that goes into making these exquisites stones into sheer works of art. Proceed to a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (modest dress is a MUST to enter all religious sites in Sri Lanka. Please contact your Target Travels representative for advice and guidance)

TEMPLE OF THE TOOTHRELIC

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth relic of the Buddha is the most important temple for the Sri Lankan Buddhists and was built in the 16th Century A.D. by king Wimaladharmasooriya, solely for the purpose of housing the tooth relic which was said to have been smuggled into Sri Lanka from India. Next enjoy a typical Sri Lankan Cultural Show. Finally visit the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya. Return to Hotel.
